Coin, Orchard of Malaga
Coín enjoys 13,000 hectares of which to a large extent are suitable for the cultivation of numerous products where fruit and vegetables stand out above all. The wealth and fertility of its lands mean that the products from the Coína orchard are of a high quality, which makes Coín a benchmark in the province's agri-food sector.
Bull's Egg Tomato
The Huevo de Toro tomato is the star of the coina garden. With a large presence in the Valle del Guadalhorce region, it is in Coín where this unique variety of tomato is produced most, highly admired for its flavor, texture and for being grown 100% outdoors. From the City Council of Coín and together with the GDR Valle del Guadalhorce, various initiatives are organized every year to promote the consumption and export of this great product from the Coín orchard. These activities are joined by many institutions such as the Diputación de Málaga and the Junta de Andalucía. The main promotional event for this product, together with the Sabor a Málaga brand, is the Huevo de Toro Tomato Auction Tasting Contest, which takes place every year on August 15 in the city of Coín. In addition, the City Council has organized this year, around this celebration, a Huevo de Toro tomato market that was held in the Guadalhorce Food Market.
Fruit and vegetable sector and contest
Horticulture is one of the most developed agricultural activities with the longest history in Coín. The fruits and vegetables from the Coína garden are spectacular both for their size and for their colors, flavors, diversity and quality in general. Every year, in summer and coinciding with the Huevo de Toro Tomato Auction, the City Council organizes the Fruit and Vegetable Contest where the best products of the year's production are awarded.
Cattle raising
The Royal Livestock Fair of Coín is one of the most important and one of the oldest held in the entire province, since it is more than 250 years old. The event takes place at the beginning of August and is held on the land next to the Pereilas river. Animals from all over the town and farmers from all over the province and the rest of Andalusia arrive to this place. During the fair, an Agricultural Contest is organized with prizes for the best specimens and various activities and exhibitions are carried out for all the public present.
